As a Cub fan, it is too bad that Derek Jeter went on the DL. I thought it would be great fun to see him chase number 3,000 at Wrigley Field this weekend. This made me think of a picture that I have on the wall of my “baseball” room. The picture shows Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Roberto Clemente standing together at an All-Star Game. I keep the picture on my wall because these players were three of my favorites as I was growing up.
There are currently 27 players who have reached 3,000 hits. Of those 27, I have been able to watch 20 during my lifetime. When Jeter reaches 3,000 hits I will be able to say that I have watched 75% of the members of this exclusive club (mostly on television but I have seen a few in person) .
